Drupal module development is used to enable extra functionality for your drupal website. Some things just can't be done via configuration and must be done in a module.
Modules are the best way to add very unique functionality requirements to a Drupal website. A module can also be used to modify the behavior of an existing module already in use.
Depending on the complexity of your requirements, I may be able to improve on an existing module and submit those changes back to the Drupal source code repository in open-source fashion.
